PIER DANCE – NYC PRIDE
78
Happy Am I! Healthy Am I! holy Am I!
June 28, 2009
New York, New York
The importance of New York’s Pride Week is surely self-evident by now, but in case
you’ve been living in a dark closet all these years, you should know that this is the
Pride that started all Prides. Three days of rioting and clashing with police in the
West Village led to a march down Fifth Avenue that set the pattern for marches
like it all over the world. Although we’ve become much more visible through the
years, it’s a nice reminder of what we had to do just to be noticed by the outside
world to march through Manhattan with dykes, leather queens, gay families, gay
cops, gay politicians, gay…everybody. Cap off the week with the infamous Pier
Dance, where you never know what will happen. Once the fireworks go off at the
end of the night with a pink Empire State Building in the distance, you’ll know that
New York is still the gay capital of the world.

DAVID FLOWER’S
SUMMER CAMP
July 4-6, 2009
Provincetown, Massachusetts
Fire Island is still fabulous, but more and more party people are discovering the
idyllic/wild combo that Ptown provides. Seemingly at the very end of the country,
Provincetown is a near-spiritual experience for those who don’t mind the long trip
there. Breathtaking sunsets, gorgeous men, and the sense that this is a town for us
to really take pride in keep the devoted, as well as newcomers, coming up for the
experience. David Flower continues to throw the biggest bash of the season with
his Summer Camp blowout over Fourth of July weekend. Between the Pier Dance,
the Hangar Party and the Sunset Cruise, you might get a bit overwhelmed by all
of the beauty and fun around you. Top it all off with fireworks on the water, and
your summer will seem endless.
