noizemagazine - Indexnoizemagazine - noiZe Magazine Issue 59 February 2009 - IndexWelcome to the Future
Scheduled for Memorial Day Weekend 2009,
World|Vibe will bring renowned DJs from around
the world to Orlando. In the vein of the famous
Sensation parties of Europe (www.sensation.com),
World|Vibe is a powerhouse combo of international
musical talent and fantastic Disney venues, along
with mastermind Mark Baker’s creative talents and
noiZe’s global reach into the dance community.
These stellar house music events will also have
alternative gay-themed parties and local mixers
and socials held at the Arabian Nights Nightclub
as well as the Mona Lisa Condo Hotel in the heart
of Disney.
noiZe is excited and honored to help usher in this
era of excitement and change, and we look forward
to seeing all of you on the dance floor as we
gather in celebration.
In This Issue...
City/Promoter Spotlight: Palm Springs has gone
from a sleepy retirement community to one of the
world's premier gay getaways. Every year, thousands
of partyboys stream into town for that legendary
rite of spring, the White Party. Meet Jeffrey
Sanker, the impresario behind this fabulously successful
Circuit marathon, and then sample the best
that this vibrant desert resort has to offer.
Black Party: Take a trip to the dark side as noiZe
takes an in-depth look at the other rite of spring.
The Saint-at-Large has kept the spirit of the Saint
alive, as this megadance celebrates thirty years—
and still manages to elicit gasps. Take a look
behind the curtain at this underground fantasy
flesh fest.
Erotic Art: We all grew up fantasizing about those
sexy comic book superheroes, but today there is a
whole new breed of artist taking the erotic dimension
front and center. D. Michael Taylor probes
the history of pop art as turn-on. Iceman Blue has
taken the superhero concept to a whole new level
with his probing (literally!) illustrations. As he says,
"These are the characters and fantasies gay men
grew up with, so they come to me because I help
them express that."
DJ Spotlight: Montreal's Patrick Guay began as a
dancer and choreographer at Black & Blue, which
helps explain why he seems to have an innate gift
for getting people off their butts and shaking their
booties. Poised to take on the U.S. and the world,
he tells noiZe about his enduring love of vinyl and
house music.
