The partnership resonated with
Christian. “I just thought it was perfect,”
he says, “because we like
to do fashion shows, and she's a
great DJ. We really ended up having
fun with it.” Christian stages
runway presentations of his latest
underwear and clothing collections
at each tour stop. “My part of it is
putting together the fashion shows
and making sure they're interesting
and fun and keeping it lively and
moving it along.” Depending on
his availability, Christian also makes
personal appearances and hosts
some of the events.
Andrew Christian is no stranger to
the club world. In fact, he credits
the underground club scene of his
youth as the start of his journey to
becoming one of today’s most popular
designers. At 15, he was making
clothes to wear when he went
out on the weekends. “My big thing
was, I needed a new outfit every
weekend, for every Saturday night
to wear out,” he explains. “And
that's really where it started, going
out with all the young club kids.”
“I would go out and wear these
outfits, and this guy came up to
me and he said, ‘Oh my god, that's
such a cool shirt! Where'd you get
it?’” When Christian revealed it was
his work, the man was so impressed
he offered to carry Andrew’s designs at
his store.

Happy Am I! Healthy Am I! holy Am I!
At age thirty, a name brand
Before long, Andrew was selling his
unique creations on consignment. He
took some fashion merchandising classes
while still in high school and, after
graduation, moved to L.A., where he
sold his own label at local boutiques
to put himself through fashion school.
“In the beginning, it was really hard
because nobody knew my name,” he
recalls. “Nobody knew who I was. But
I was always really determined to make
my dreams come true. I just kept working
at it.”
It worked. Today, this 30-year-old’s
name is known in hundreds of stores
across the country and on every continent
except Antarctica, which he vowed
would be his “next conquest” (although
one might wonder about the need for
skimpy briefs).
His catalog, which can be found online
at andrewchristian.com, contains not
only his underwear and swimsuits but
also his contemporary collections of
menswear and his first women’s line,
which he debuted earlier this year. He
has recently introduced a new, dressier
collection for both men and women
later this year called Black by Andrew
Christian.
