DAviD FLOWER’S
SuMMER CAMP
July 1-5, 2008
Provincetown, Massachusetts
For nine years, David Flower has put P-Town on the party map. This year marks
a decade of making this world-famous gay town a destination for the Fourth of
July. Stunning settings, world-famous DJs and tons of magnificent men. It’s all
here. Start with the Night Cruise on July 2, everyone's favorite weekend event.
Dance aboard the enormous open-air top deck of The Provincetown II, Boston's
biggest passenger cruise ship. This historic ferry, which accommodates 1,000
people, is twice the size of any other party boat on Cape Cod at four stories high
and with two expansive levels of dancing. On July 3, board The Provinctown II
once more for the Late Night Boat Party and keep dancing long after everything
else on the mainland has closed. But save some energy for Pier Dance on July 4,
which begins with in the afternoon sunshine and ends at sunset.

July 4, 2008
Fire Island, New York
Once upon a time, a beautiful queen traveled by sea from her palace to a
nearby province so that she could converse with its locals and drink libations
in their honor. When she arrived in that strange land, however, she was denied
service at the local watering hole. So she gathered her fellow fabulous citizens,
commandeered a boat and invaded the offending space. Imagine her surprise
when she was greeted with smiles instead of scorn. Thus was born on July 4,
1976, the Invasion, the most famous annual event on all of Fire Island. And it’s all
true. This story about a drag queen denied a drink in Fire Island Pines, her return
by water taxi with other drag queens and the hearty welcome given to them
when they arrived, is re-enacted every July 4. Expect lots of men and women in
drag, as well as muscle boys who have come to join the daytime fun and nightly
dance festivities. It’s fun, it’s sloppy, it’s unique, it’s liberating, and it’s … well, it’s
the true spirit of Fire Island.
