Britney Spears
Gimme More (Remixes)
All the media coverage and custody
battles aside, “Gimme More”
is one of her catchiest songs ever.
I give her props for trying out a
more urban sound courtesy of
Timbaland’s production team.
If anything, this move makes her
even more of a Madonna acolyte
in her willingness to adapt to contemporary
trends—and to pull it
off. The remix A&R efforts backing
this release were legendary; buying
island property in Dubai would be
cheaper than what the label spent
to ensure this song’s good reception
and multi-genre appeal. While
it does not contain all, this German
release includes mixes by Kaskade,
Junkie XL and StoneBridge. In the
by Jamie Nicholes
end, OK, it’s just another radio single
with some risks taken to create a stir.
And that VMA performance couldn’t
have worked better if it were planned,
as the album sales soared on a hurricane
of sympathy (that, or schadenfreude).

Leona Lewis
Bleeding Love (Remixes)
Just when it seems we've run out of
metaphors for heartbreak, X Factor
contestant Leona Lewis comes up with
another in her debut single "Bleeding
Love,” a danceable torch-song-turned
disco-flavored peak-hour anthem courtesy
of production team du jour Moto
Blanco. The operative line "You cut me
open and I keep bleeding, keep keep
bleeding love" will burn itself into your
brain like your future ex-boyfriend’s
Dear John email and gives you the perfect
way to revel in the beautiful agony
of love lost.
